11 Novembre 2025

1. Azioni e Risorse Messe in Campo

Dear Parents,

With this communication, we would like to share some updates with you and reinforce our request for collaboration regarding the behavioral and relational dynamics that may arise during our extracurricular STEAM courses. We strongly believe that a calm and constructive environment is essential for the success of the workshops and for the well-being of all children.

We would also like to inform you that we are in continuous contact with AGSEV and, through them, with the school, in order to share strategies and actions to ensure the highest possible quality of our programs and a positive learning environment for everyone.

1. Actions and Resources Implemented

To ensure a high-quality educational context and best support the children, we have implemented and are maintaining several organizational and pedagogical measures:

Increased Support (1:7 Ratio):
We have increased the number of support staff, reducing the adult/child ratio to 1 adult for every 7 children. This high level of attention allows us to more effectively monitor group dynamics and intervene promptly when needed.

Shared Rules and Pedagogical Tools:
Our instructors and assistants have worked directly with the children to create Shared Behavioral Rules (attached to this communication), in order to foster responsibility and clarify expectations.

Qualified and Trained Staff:
Our staff is trained and pedagogically supervised. They consistently encourage children to resolve disagreements verbally rather than physically.

Decompression Areas:
We have set up decompression areas for assisted free play, with materials such as LEGO and origami, to help children recharge and regain calm in a peaceful, constructive environment.

Attention to Relational Dynamics:
Our instructors and assistants carefully observe interactions between children, offering targeted support to each child and promoting an atmosphere of inclusion and mutual respect.

2. Request for Essential Family Collaboration

For the success of the STEAM courses, which are based on active participation and cooperation, we kindly ask for your support in the following key areas:

Encouraging Respect and Dialogue:
We ask you to encourage your children to respect others (both peers and adults) and to use words rather than physical reactions when facing relational difficulties. Parental reinforcement is essential to strengthen the educational approach used during the workshops.

Positive Role Modeling:
It is essential that parents also address our instructors and assistants with respect and courtesy. Please explain to your children that they can turn to the supervising adults for help and support whenever needed. In turn, our team always addresses children and parents with care and attention.

Sharing Information About Individual Needs:
We invite you to inform us by email or phone about any challenges or sensitivities your child may be experiencing, even if related to the day itself. What happens outside the school context often impacts behavior in class. Being aware of these circumstances helps our staff better support both the individual and the group.

Motivation and Awareness:
We remind you that the STEAM workshops are most effective when children are motivated, encouraged to participate, and aware of the activities planned for the afternoon. We are continuously applying skills and resources to make the sessions meaningful and engaging.

3. Management of Complex Situations

Please note that, in the event of complex situations or repeated conflicts between children, the families involved will be promptly contacted by our instructors or assistants. The goal will be to understand the dynamics together and define a shared educational strategy to prevent these situations from reoccurring.

Hoping for strong cooperation and synergy between the home and the extracurricular environment, we thank you for your attention and support.

Today the STEAM Workshop began the first part of the Unplugged Coding module, which will be developed over two sessions.

Since the Theater teacher was absent today, we introduced a Creativity Workshop (watercolors, origami, and LEGO). This workshop will also remain available in the upcoming Fridays and will offer a free-choice alternative to both the STEAM Workshop and the Theater Workshop.

Laboratori Extrascolastici STEAM – Scuola Europea

Potete scriverci all’indirizzo email: info@thethinkerlab.it

Cordiali saluti,

Il team del ThinkerLab

After-School STEAM Workshops – European School

Parent Communication: Organization of Wednesday and Friday Afternoons

Dear Parents,

The ThinkerLab team, part of Ideiamo (the organization managing the after-school STEAM workshops – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Creative Mathematics), would like to share with you some details regarding the organization of the afternoon activities at the European School, as well as the guidelines that ensure the success of the program.

1. Afternoon Structure (Wednesdays and Fridays)

The organization of the afternoons follows the arrangements agreed upon with the Parent Group and the School:

Pick-up and Attendance Check:
The children are taken in charge by our assistants, Camilla and Eleonora, with Daniele’s support on Fridays (maximum ratio: 1 assistant per 10 children), directly in the designated area at the time of handover from the teachers. During this stage, we verify attendance and note any absences previously communicated by parents and/or teachers.

Lunch:
The group is then accompanied to the designated lunch area according to the school’s indications:

Our assistants supervise the lunch period, encouraging children to eat but without forcing them if they persistently refuse. As has already happened, we will inform families if a child repeatedly refuses to eat.

Important for home meals (Wednesday):
We kindly remind families who send lunch from home to always include cutlery, plates, cups, and anything else needed for the meal, as there have been several cases in which children were missing these items.

Post-Lunch Activities and Relaxation:
After lunch, the children move to the designated classrooms for complementary activities led by the assistants.

So far, we have proposed motor and social activities, which are essential during the first sessions to foster integration and build good relationships within the group, as the children come from different classes and linguistic backgrounds.

We have also included LEGO and origami activities, chosen in part based on the children’s interests and requests. ThinkerLab’s approach is to listen to children’s ideas and preferences, nurture them, and encourage the discovery of their talents even during non-laboratory moments.

Small-Group STEAM / THEATER Workshop:
Afterwards, the children take part in the specific workshop led by the expert instructor.

2. The STEAM Program

Our STEAM program includes a variety of activities throughout the year. Activities are divided into 4–5 session modules and are led by different experts to cover the following areas in depth:

3. Shared Rules and Learning Environment

For ThinkerLab, it is essential that children learn science while having fun, but also that they develop teamwork skills in a safe and positive environment.

The rules that ensure the smooth running of the sessions and transitions were written and discussed with the Wednesday group through an activity that actively involved the children, helping them take ownership of their time and the success of the afternoons. The same activity will be carried out with the Friday group on October 17, 2025.

This group exercise led to the creation of the following rules:

Our Group Rules

  1. No shouting
  2. No running in the classroom
  3. Be kind to others
  4. Put away the materials you use
  5. Listen to the teachers (and experts)

Group Management:
Since the children come from different classes and have various mother tongues, we notice a range of personalities and comfort levels in group settings: some struggle more, others need more movement, and some have variable interest levels. Our goal is to help everyone feel included and at ease. For this reason:

Role of the Adult:
For the activities to be successful, shared rules must be followed. The adult (assistant or expert), trained and supervised by ThinkerLab’s pedagogical team, is responsible for maintaining order and ensuring a calm environment when necessary.

We invite you to review these rules with your children and to emphasize the importance of listening to assistants and experts and turning to them if they need help or support.

4. Language Aspects

As agreed with the School and Parent Group, our workshops are conducted in Italian. English is used to support communication when needed, but we cannot guarantee the use of other languages.

Our experts and assistants, with a few exceptions, are not native English speakers. Therefore, English should be considered as a supplementary aid for the children, and we kindly ask for understanding if the communication occasionally lacks nuance and remains basic or practical in tone.

5. Contacts and Feedback

We’ve already had the pleasure of exchanging feedback with some of you and warmly invite you to contact us with any questions, needs, or even positive comments that help us grow as a group.

You can reach us by email at: info@thethinkerlab.it

Please remember that absences must be reported by the day of the workshop using this form.

Thank you for your attention and for choosing ThinkerLab to enrich your children’s afternoons with the wonder of STEAM subjects.

Kind regards,
The ThinkerLab Team
